Diphenylethane can be brominated to synthesize a new type of flame retardant - decabromodiphenylethane. The sulfonated product of diphenylethane is an excellent tanning agent in the leather processing industry. It can also be used in the pharmaceutical industry as a clean and thermally conductive agent. It is used as oil to replace ordinary heat transfer oil, and it is the main raw material for the production of fluorescent whitening agents and pharmaceutical intermediates.
